The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project "Unity Beyond Borders" (Project No: 2024-1-AT01-KA152-YOU-000198325), implemented in partnership with Artemis Women's Power MTÜ and coordinated by Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheitenintegration, continued with its second day of educational activities in Pflach, Austria. Bringing together participants from Austria, Estonia, Romania, Türkiye, and Spain, the project seeks to raise awareness about the realities faced by refugee women while promoting human rights, inclusion, and intercultural understanding.
The day began with an educational session exploring the concepts of migration, refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants. Through presentations and group discussions, participants examined the legal and social differences between these concepts while reflecting on the reasons why people are forced to flee their countries. The session encouraged participants to approach migration not only from a legal perspective but also through a humanitarian lens.
Participants then watched a documentary featuring the real-life experiences of Syrian refugee women rebuilding their lives after displacement. Following the screening, they engaged in a reflective discussion, analysing the social, economic, and psychological challenges faced by refugee women. The activity encouraged empathy and provided a deeper understanding of the realities experienced by displaced women.
In the afternoon, creativity became a tool for advocacy. Participants worked together to design project posters, T-shirts, and keychains carrying messages related to refugee women's rights and social inclusion. These materials were created as dissemination tools to increase public awareness while allowing participants to express solidarity through art and design.
The day concluded with a Turkish Cultural Night, during which the Turkish delegation introduced traditional cuisine, music, dances, and cultural heritage. The evening created another opportunity for intercultural exchange, helping participants overcome stereotypes while strengthening friendships among the international group.
