He for She: Challenging Stereotypes Through Equality, Empathy, and Cultural Exchange

He for She was an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project organized by Artemis Women's Power MTÜ under project number 2023-1-EE01-KA152-YOU-000113609. The project took place in Saaremaa, Estonia, from 9 December to 16 December 2023, bringing together participants from Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Romania, and Turkey. Through interactive educational activities, cultural exchange, and non-formal learning methods, the project aimed to promote gender equality, challenge stereotypes, strengthen intercultural understanding, and encourage young people to become active advocates for equal opportunities.

Participants strengthened their teamwork and communication skills through engaging warm-up activities designed to build trust and cooperation. By learning through observation, discovery, and active participation, they developed stronger social connections while becoming more familiar with the diverse cultural backgrounds represented within the group. These interactive exercises created an open and inclusive atmosphere that encouraged everyone to contribute confidently throughout the project.

The project placed significant emphasis on highlighting inspiring female role models and encouraging discussions on gender equality. Through presentations prepared by each national team, participants explored the achievements of courageous women, including Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo, and reflected on the importance of equal opportunities in leadership and society. These sessions promoted critical thinking, expanded participants' understanding of women's contributions across different countries, and encouraged respectful dialogue about equality and inclusion.

Another important learning experience focused on identifying and overcoming personal prejudices. Interactive role-playing activities challenged participants to question stereotypes related to nationality, ethnicity, religion, and social background while practicing empathy and active communication. Reflection and evaluation sessions further encouraged participants to assess their learning, express their opinions openly, and consider how they could apply these new perspectives in their everyday lives and future community initiatives.

The project also strengthened cooperation through collaborative preparations for a public flash mob and celebrated cultural diversity during the Turkish Cultural Night. Participants learned traditional dances, music, language, and customs while sharing their own cultural heritage with others. These experiences reinforced mutual respect, reduced prejudices through direct interaction, and demonstrated how intercultural dialogue and shared experiences can contribute to building more inclusive, equal, and peaceful communities.
