Day 4 of the Rebirth: Climate Crisis and Migration Project: Exploring the Environmental Impact of War and the Importance of Peace

The fourth day of the “Rebirth: Climate Crisis and Migration” Erasmus+ Youth Workers Mobility Project, in which Artemis Women's Power MTÜ participated as a partner organization, began with a creative and energizing activity designed to increase participants’ motivation. Led by the Italian team, youth workers interpreted nature-inspired compositions by Charles Camille Saint-Saëns through body movements. By expressing natural phenomena and living creatures through movement, participants enhanced their creativity while reflecting on their connection with nature from a different perspective.

The day continued with sessions focusing on the environmental consequences of war. During the “Deforestation and War” activity, participants explored how armed conflicts contribute to deforestation, the destruction of agricultural lands, biodiversity loss, and long-term environmental degradation. Through visual and audio materials, youth workers examined real-life examples and shared experiences from their own countries, highlighting the far-reaching impact of war on ecosystems as well as human communities.

Another important session, “Radioactive Pollution and War,” addressed the environmental and health effects of radioactive contamination caused by modern warfare. Through presentations and discussions, participants examined how the consequences of certain weapons can persist long after conflicts end, affecting soil, water resources, and public health. The activity increased awareness of the long-term environmental challenges associated with war and encouraged participants to reflect on their global implications.

In the afternoon, youth workers took part in the “If There Were No Wars...” activity, where they worked in groups to imagine an alternative world without armed conflicts. Participants researched potential developments in education, healthcare, technology, the economy, and environmental sustainability, and transformed their findings into creative scenarios using drama techniques. This exercise enabled them to better understand both the losses caused by wars and the opportunities that peace can create for societies and future generations.

At the end of the day, participants evaluated the activities through a reflection session, sharing their thoughts and learning outcomes. The evening concluded with a cultural event where representatives from each country introduced their traditions, music, dances, languages, and local cuisine. This intercultural exchange strengthened friendships among participants and fostered a deeper understanding of different cultures. Overall, the fourth day successfully combined environmental awareness, critical reflection on the consequences of war, and the promotion of intercultural dialogue and international cooperation.
