Cultures, Stories, and New Perspectives: Unity Beyond Borders Continued to Inspire Young People

The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project "Unity Beyond Borders" (Project No: 2024-1-AT01-KA152-YOU-000198325), implemented in partnership with Artemis Women's Power MTÜ and coordinated by Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheitenintegration, continued to bring together young people from Austria, Estonia, Romania, Türkiye, and Spain in Pflach, Austria. Throughout the remaining days of the exchange, participants strengthened intercultural friendships while exploring the realities faced by refugee women through interactive learning and creative collaboration.

Participants stepped beyond the classroom by taking part in street interviews, interactive simulations, and storytelling activities designed to encourage empathy and challenge stereotypes. Through role-playing exercises and group discussions, they explored the emotional and practical challenges refugee women often face, transforming learning into meaningful dialogue and shared understanding.

Creativity played a central role throughout the programme. Participants researched inspiring stories of refugee women, transformed them into digital magazine articles, performed theatrical presentations for local audiences, and shared the project's message through social media and dissemination activities. These collaborative experiences highlighted the power of youth engagement in promoting inclusion, equality, and human rights.

The project also offered opportunities to connect with the local community through stakeholder visits, where participants learned about local initiatives supporting refugee integration and exchanged ideas with community representatives. A city exploration activity further encouraged participants to discover the cultural and historical heritage of Pflach while strengthening friendships across nationalities.

One of the highlights of the exchange was the series of intercultural evenings, where each participating country introduced its traditions, music, dances, cuisine, and customs. Romanian, Spanish, Estonian, Turkish, and Austrian cultural nights transformed every evening into a celebration of diversity, allowing participants to experience different cultures firsthand while building mutual respect, understanding, and lasting international friendships.

As the project came to an end, participants reflected on their personal learning journey through the Youthpass process, evaluated the competences they had developed, and celebrated their achievements during the certificate ceremony. The farewell activities marked not only the conclusion of an Erasmus+ project but also the beginning of new international connections, stronger intercultural awareness, and a shared commitment to promoting solidarity and inclusion beyond borders.
