A Journey of Empathy Begins: Unity Beyond Borders Brings Young People Together for a Common Purpose

The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project "Unity Beyond Borders" (Project No: 2024-1-AT01-KA152-YOU-000198325), implemented in partnership with Artemis Women's Power MTÜ and coordinated by Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheitenintegration, officially began in Pflach, Austria, from 1–8 December 2024. Bringing together young people from Austria, Estonia, Romania, Türkiye, and Spain, the project aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by refugee women, promote human rights, and strengthen intercultural solidarity.

The first day focused on creating a welcoming and collaborative learning environment. Participants from different countries took part in interactive ice-breaking activities designed to help them get to know one another, improve communication, and build trust. These team-building exercises laid the foundation for the cooperation and friendships that would develop throughout the project.

Following the introductory activities, the host organization conducted an orientation session, providing participants with detailed information about the project's objectives, daily programme, safety procedures, accommodation, and the Erasmus+ learning process. Participants also received project booklets containing practical information that would guide them throughout the exchange.

Another important session introduced participants to the Youthpass Certificate, explaining its role in documenting the competences and skills gained through Erasmus+ projects. Participants learned how Youthpass contributes to both personal and professional development while encouraging them to reflect on their learning journey during the project.

The educational programme continued with an introduction to the Erasmus+ Programme. Working in international teams, participants prepared presentations about Erasmus+, its priorities, objectives, and the opportunities it offers to young people. For many first-time participants, this session served as a valuable introduction to international mobility and non-formal learning.

The day concluded with an Austrian Cultural Night, where the Austrian team introduced their country's traditions, cuisine, music, and dances. The evening encouraged intercultural dialogue and helped participants appreciate cultural diversity while fostering mutual respect and understanding.
